Institute of Dermatology: Your partner in Evidence-Based Dermatology

The Institute of Dermatology Ltd. in Krakow (Cracow), Poland, is an independent organisation founded to promote modern, evidence-based dermatology. Our mission is to achieve better health and quality of life of people suffering from skin diseases, as well as to prevent skin diseases before they arise. Our strategy for achieving this goal includes research & development, as well as education of doctors, other specialist active in the field of skin health (beauty therapists, hairdressers), and patients. The Institute's priority activities include:

• Fostering progress in everyday clinical practice through providing theoretical and practical knowledge in diagnostic and therapy in dermatology, immunology, and allergology. These activities are based on the principles of Evidence-Based Medicine and Health Technology Assessment.
• Scientific research in dermatology, immunology and allergy. Elaboration of evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Actions aimed at better understanding causes of, and thus a better combating skin diseases.
• Scientific research in cosmetology and cosmetic technology. Assessment of safety and effectiveness of cosmetic products (skin, hair, and nail care) and their ingredients. Analysis of allergic and toxicological risk of cosmetic ingredients. Studies of effectiveness and customer satisfaction of cosmetic products in the general population, and populations of people with particular skin problems (e.g. eczema, acne, psoriasis, etc.). Expert opinion on cosmetic products based on properties of their ingredients. In vitro testing of cosmetic ingredients.
• Fostering biomedical research through providing theoretical and practical know-how in research methodology: clinical and epidemiological research, laboratory research based on immunoassays. We also offer full-range of support and service in introducing the ELISPOT (enzyme-linked immunospot assay) in research laboratories: from hands-on training to technical support.

Important notice for patients: At present, the Institute of Dermatology as such does not provide specialist diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients, focusing on research and teaching services for doctors. However, the Institute's Scientific Director, Dr. habil. med. Radoslaw Spiewak - specialist dermatologist and venereologist, consults patients at the Dermatology and Allergy Consultancy 'dermatolog.eu' in Krakow, Poland. Dr Radoslaw Spiewak, MD PhD, is certified dermatology consultant with more than 20 years' professional experience collected in dermatology and allergy clinics and institutes in Aachen, Amsterdam, Bochum, Katowice, Krakow, Kuopio, Lublin, and Zürich.
